Quick Bedroom Makeover For Under $200

Happy Friday, everyone. Instead of bringing you the typical DIY tutorial, we thought we’d share a bedroom renovation we recently completed. Who doesn’t love some good before and after pictures?

Okay, so full disclosure- there truly was nothing WRONG with the room before the makeover but it felt “young” to us. We wanted to make some small (and let's be honest- cheap) updates to the room to make it feel more mature and a great place for our guests to rest their sweet, little heads.

So, here we go…

Our first step on the room makeover was to paint and add crown molding. Our builder has one color- beige- and it is EVERYWHERE in this house. Every nook and cranny. While it’s neutral enough to not go crazy, this room was begging for something different. After we polled the IG community, we decided to go with Benjamin Moore’s- Revere Pewter. This paint is considered a “greige” and will pull grey or beige depending on lighting. Talk about playing mind games! As we painted it went on really dark and we thought “holy cow, what have we done?” but it dried much lighter. Did we mention that the beige was everywhere? Even on the ceiling? So, we painted the ceiling white to make the room brighter. Then threw up (okay, it really wasn't as easy as just throwing it up but you get it) some grown molding.

Before- Beige walls and ceiling.

After- BM Revere Pewter, White Ceiling and Crown Molding

Now, the fun part could start-decorating! We swapped out the trunks for a night stand (Homegoods). Adding some more color to the nightstand with some antique candlesticks, books and greenery. The small lamp was from Target and the sign was from Homegoods. The combination between old and new really brought the room to life.

So, what’d we do with those gorgeous trunks? No way could we get rid of them. The larger one was the perfect size to be added to the end of the bed.

It’s another area to add some natural colors into the room.

We decided to change out the wall hangings for something with a bit more of a statement. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good Magnolia wreath (Hobby Lobby- 50% off). The distressed shutter came from an antique store for $30-what a steal! The room had been painted for some time but we were waiting for the right statement piece, we didn't know exactly what we wanted but knew it would jump out at us when we saw it and that's exactly what happened with the shutter. It was meant for this room.

Before- Wall hangings from IKEA- Just fabric stretched across wood.

After- Antique Store Shutter & Hobby Lobby Magnolia Wreath

And the last thing that got a makeover was the throw pillows. The original throw pillows were okay, but who likes just okay? The new, updated throw pillows came from Homegoods and add the perfect amount of color and texture to bring everything together.

Okay, we lied, the throw pillows weren't the last thing. This wonderful, metal blanket ladder (Decor Steals) and flower bucket (local Ohio decor shop) made their way into the room to really finish it off.

We can’t wait for guests to come and stay in this space. It was so fun to watch the transformation. This room had always been neglected and once we gave it some love, has turned into one of our favorite places in the house.  The whole process took about a weekend (give or take little decor items we have picked up here and there to finish the space off). If we had to guess (we promise to get better at keeping track of cost), this whole transformation cost us less than $200. It's amazing what a little paint and some decor can do for a room!
